Millwright Regional Council to Support Ontario’s Energy Future with Pickering Nuclear Refurbishment
Ontario, January 24, 2025 — The Millwright Regional Council (MRC) is proud to announce its support for Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) refurbishment of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. This significant initiative, backed by the Ontario government, will ensure decades of clean, reliable, and emissions-free electricity while creating thousands of jobs across the province.
The refurbishment of the Pickering “B” units will extend the facility’s operational life by at least 30 years, providing 2,000 megawatts of electricity—enough to power millions of homes. This project addresses Ontario’s growing energy needs while driving economic growth and supporting a sustainable, electrified future.
UBC Millwrights, known for their expertise in precision and industrial maintenance, will play a pivotal role in this transformative project. Through advanced training programs and cutting-edge facilities, the MRC ensures its workforce is prepared to meet the unique demands of nuclear energy projects, including the installation, maintenance, and refurbishment of critical systems. The MRC will collaborate closely with OPG, contractors, and industry stakeholders to maintain the highest safety and quality standards.
“This project is more than an investment in infrastructure; it’s an investment in Ontario’s future,” said Mark Beardsworth, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Millwright Regional Council (MRC). “We are honoured to bring our expertise to this initiative, ensuring it is completed with precision and care. Together, we are shaping a sustainable energy future for generations to come.”
