St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, June 10, 2023 - Brother Jeff Astolfi from UBC Millwright Local 1592 Sarnia was honoured to receive the UBC Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award of Excellence recognizing Mentors, Mentees, and Employers who demonstrate exceptional leadership towards creating an environment of acceptance, equality, and respect for all workers.

Jeff is an established Millwright with over 28 years of experience in the industry. His Millwright journey began with his father Ray (50-year retired member of Local 1592), who became a Millwright shortly after Jeff was born, giving him his first taste of the field. Jeff's passion for the trade grew when he enlisted in the Canadian Navy at the age of 17 as a Naval Weapons Tech, serving in the Persian Gulf War and a UN Embargo of Haiti, earning him the status of a Veteran. After being honorably discharged in 1994, Jeff returned to his hometown of Sarnia Ontario, where he joined UBC Millwright Local 1592 and established his own company, Integrity Millwrights Inc., which ran from 2005 to 2016.

When it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Jeff sets the standard as an exemplary role model. Jeff has been described by tradeswomen as being a role model. Throughout his career, Jeff has taken on several roles, including CEO, Superintendent, Operations Manager for Canada, General Foreman, Foreman, Supervisor, Steward, Estimator, College Instructor, Chairman, and Delegate, executing each of these positions with pride and the best of his ability.

“UBC Millwright Local 1592, Brother Jeff Astolfi embodies the important factor in building, training, and developing high-performing teams – Leadership. This award stands as a powerful reminder of the strength of unity that can be achieved when individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures and perspectives come together with a shared vision of progress and equality.” said Mark Beardsworth, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Millwright Regional Council

Jeff's Millwright Mentees have gone on to work in refineries and factories across Canada, a testament to his excellent mentorship. He is grateful for the guidance and knowledge he has gained along the way and strives to impart the same values of patience, understanding, and professionalism in passing on his expertise.

A proud career that continues to positively impact the goals of the Millwright Regional Council by supporting Recruitment, Retention, Business Development, Political Affairs, and Training.

For Jeff, the Millwright trade is and always has been the best career choice he has ever made.
