Published On: June 7, 2024Categories: Press Release

Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Millwright Regional Council (MRC) proudly announced the participation of five exceptional competitors in this year’s National Apprenticeship Competition (NAC) held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The contest featured three challenging practical projects designed to test a wide range of skills among the apprentices, alongside a comprehensive written exam.

The practical projects included:

Alignment of a Pump and Motor: This task required precise alignment techniques to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the machinery.

Layout Project with Bearing Installation: Competitors were tasked with installing two bearings to support a shaft, complete with grease lines, tube bending, and Swagelok fittings.

Sole Plate Leveling Project: This involved the fabrication and welding of a tripod triangle, as well as transferring a benchmark to set the elevation accurately.

Throughout the contest, the competitors demonstrated exceptional quality, integrity, and professionalism. The Millwright contest was notably close, with the top six positions separated by mere thousandths of an inch and single questions on the exam. The MRC congratulates the top performers: David Boese Local 1021 Saskatchewan (3rd place), Greg Konrad Local 1244 Windsor (2nd place), and extends commendations to Stephen Elgar Local 1443 Manitoba, Serafino Dumas Local 1460 Alberta, and Olivier Kingsley Local 2736 British Columbia for their outstanding efforts. We also extend congratulations to Tyler Lesjak from The Atlantic Canada Regional Council, Local 2262 New Brunswick who finished in 1st Place.

“We are immensely proud of our competitors,” said Duncan McIntosh, Director of Operations, MRC. “Their dedication and skill exemplify the high standards of our training programs and the excellence we strive for in our trade.”
