Sarnia, ON – March 4, 2023 – Following a full scale retool of the General Motors (GM) CAMI Assembly plant to produce all electric delivery vehicles, Millwright Regional Council (MRC) members have been present onsite, providing support for the development of this new battery assembly facility. CAMI will initiate the production of battery modules, thereby contributing to the company’s growing electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing capacity. Specifically, CAMI will assemble the BrightDrop Zevo 600, a spacious cargo van, as well as its smaller counterpart, the EV410.

Skilled UBC Millwrights will play a vital role, partnering with signatory contractor Alberici to leverage our training, skills, and experience to complete the work safely and ensuring that the project remains on schedule and within budget.

Spanning an impressive 400,000 square feet, the new battery facility will not only assemble modules for BrightDrop Zevo production at CAMI but also support the production of additional Ultium EVs at various General Motors (GM) plants. This project is expected to create nearly 300 jobs at CAMI Assembly with fleet orders from prominent companies such as Hertz, Walmart, FedEx, Verizon, Merchants Fleet, and DHL Canada.

UBC Millwright Local 1592 Sarnia and our contractors have long partnered with CAMI Assembly and GM to help drive the success of the Automotive Industry in Southwestern Ontario.
