Black & McDonald on The Move In Manitoba

Selkirk, MB – February 29, 2023 – On a recent site visit UBC Millwright Local 1443 Manitoba Business Representative James Szmerski was pleased to be able to tour the new home of Black & McDonald’s Manitoba Millwright Division. Superintendent Ron Kotowich explained that the current 12,000 square foot space has just become too small. There was also a need for outdoor space for tooling Sea Cans and employee parking.  Conveniently the new space is directly across from the current shop location and has plenty of office space overhead room and doors to be multifunctional for all mechanical needs for Black and McDonald.

Black & McDonald is investing in the space as well by adding new lighting and making equipment upgrades. Black & McDonald and their team have steadily gained work and have outgrown the current shop. The new shop is over 25,000 Square feet and Ron Kotowich has plans for every foot of it. The future of Black & McDonald will be solidified for a long time in Selkirk Manitoba and Local 1443 will be with them every step of the way. One of their largest clients is close by the shop and will be keeping plenty of skilled union millwrights busy there with weekly shutdown prep work and equipment rebuilds. Black and McDonald aggressively bids and completes work all over Manitoba, keeping over 50 Local 1443 Members employed at times in 2023. This move is encouraging that a busy 2024 is on the way.
